I have seen people posting spam & doing other things to bring traffic to their site but the best way to do is to get involved with the community. It really does not take much time but can give some awesome results in terms of targeted traffic you can get from the forums.

If the forum looks spammy, you should not register an account with them. Spammy forum contain many threads and posts about porn, pharmacy, poker and etc. These forums are being spammed by other people. Normally, these forums are not maintained therefore the spam posts remain there.

Typically when you are using such a service the posts will be drip fed on to the forum over a set number of days, this is a proven method to help the forum look as though it is growing organically in the eyes of the search engines.

Probably we send out 10 or more emails in a month, this could be business or personal messages to our friends, acquaintances, clients or even prospective partners. A live link and a brief description about your forum at the footer of your email would certainly not hurt the overall objective of your email.
